Purpose of Post

To assist the co-ordinator in providing a caring, secure and stimulating environment for children between the ages of 4 to 11; which provides for their social, recreational and educational needs, through individual attention and group activities, and to organise an appropriate range of leisure activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Activity Planning

  • To provide a safe, creative and appropriate play opportunities including preparing activities, organisation programmes and arranging equipment.
  • To ensure that all activities are carried out within an equal opportunities framework.
  • To assist in the delivery of EYFS, this includes written observations, monitoring and maintaining Profiles
  • To undertake any necessary training including a nationally recognised play work foundation course.
  • To encourage community wide participation and activity planning and delivery.


  • To develop and maintain good relationships and communications with parents to facilitate day-to-day caring needs.
  • To encourage parental involvement and support through the development of effective working relationships.
  • To consult with the children and involve them in the planning of activities.
  • To liaise with local schools and other agencies.

Supervision and care of children

  • To collect children from local schools in an orderly manner ensuring their safety at all times.
  • Ensure that activities are carried out in a safe and responsible manner in accordance with statutory responsibilities.
  • Ensure that food provision is carried out within the guidelines of the food safety act 1990, and is balanced and healthy in accordance with dietary requirements.

Direct Play Work

  • Help the co-ordinator to ensure that a wide range of creative and enjoyable activities are offered.
  • Ensure that play meets the full range of children's individual and group needs.


15 hours per week (term time only)


2 Years minimum experience of working with children aged 4-11 years


NVQ 2 Children’s Care, Learning and Development BTEC National Certificate Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People workforce
